Every year Drug Free World International participate in the UN's 26 June events world wide. In 2014 Drug Free World International reached just over 19 Million individuals world wide during the week leading up to 26 June. Here in Africa we also do our part to bring about awareness with factual education about the harmful effects of drugs and we do as many events as possible during the week of 26 June with the help of our volunteers that come from many faith's, races, nationalities, creeds all working together with the same purpose.
In 2014 Drug Free World Africa did 26 event all around Africa and this year in 2015 Drug Free World Africa Managed to do exactly 50 events that has reached over 100 000 individuals and on social media we have reached just over 500 000 people. The purpose of this is to educate young and old about the harmful effects of drugs with factual information. Without preaching about what the individuals should do.Drug Free World give real facts from real people with real life experiences with materials and high definition video's that communicate to everyone.
Right now Africa is the 3rd largest continent when it comes to drug use and South Africa is the drug capital of Africa. 85% of all crime in South Africa is due to drug abuse. In South Africa alone 15% (7.5 million) of the population are addicts. With statistics like this we could feel like giving up hope. But there is good news, there is a solution to the drug issue in Africa and that is education.
There is one thing I would like to high-lite,for as long as I can remember people use to tell us "say NO to drugs" but they never said why, which leads the youth to actually trying out these drugs. At Drug Free World we believe "Education is the most effective tool against drugs and substance abuse".
And because we have seen it many times over when you talk to youth and adults about drugs, and you inform them about the short term and long term effects from these drugs. Once informed and empowered with the Truth about drugs individuals are able to make more informed decisions and are 75% less likely to ever use drugs in the first place.
So yes, there is a solution to the scourge of drugs that plague Africa but only together can we create a drug-free society.
