The Space
Our vacation home has been designed to be a destination that truly defines a uniquely African wilderness experience. The bungalow is surrounded by lawns and set in riverine forest. There is access to an outside thatched dining area and riverside barbeque, as well as a stunning river-deck set under a fig tree with views stretching for miles down-river.
Guest Access
1- Camping sites with facilities are also available if needed for larger parties of up to 6 campers: additional camping rates apply.
2- Motor boat rental and mokoro trips for bird-watching and fishing can be arranged.
Interaction with Guests
The camp has solar lighting, H/C water and flush toilets. Our Lozi manager and his wife are attentive and enthusiastically devoted to helping make your stay memorable. With daily room service and housekeeping as well as your own cook, you need only get there and bring your food: you have little choice other than to simply relax, unwind and enjoy the Zambezi river experience.
The Neighborhood
The camp lies in part of the newly formed Sisheke Conservation Project and is within 30 minutes' drive of Ngonywe Falls which is also the northern entrance to the Sioma Ngewzi National Park. The area is unfenced allowing free movement of the wildlife. A day's drive further north lies the famous Liuwa Plains National Park, site of the spectacular annual wildebeest migration. Kavumbu Camp is also within an easy day's drive of Moremi and Chobe National Park just across the northern Botswana border, and 5 hours' easy drive to the south-east, Livingstone and the world-famous Victoria Falls.
Getting Around
An easy way in is to fly into Livingstone and arrange a car rental. For the savvy African travellers used to border crossings an alternative would be to fly in and arrange a rental in Kisane, Botswana which is the entry port to Chobe NP. For those who wish to stay at the camp and not venture any further afield, transportation to and from the camp can be arranged. We can help with travel advice.
Other Things to Note
The camp is set within a wilderness area which means that you stay AT YOUR OWN RISK as some animals - particularly hippos - may be on land at night: we've only seen them in the river in front of the camp. Take care and act responsibly.
As a rustic setting for a family vacation, Kavumbu blends the spaciousness of a private bush home with services and amenities for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Full private use of the site including the lapa and river bar deck, and have the staff on hand who can prepare food, wash dishes and do laundry for an added fee/tip. So you'll be living on the river with staff available both during the day and with an attendant on the property overnight too.
Staff will be very helpful and attentive and a 5 to 10% tip would be appropriate.
